Beaufort Academy senior quarterback Gibson Achurch wants to go to a big-time football school to experience games as a fan after graduating-- the University of South Carolina is his favorite.
For the next couple of months, though, he'll enjoy his final high school football season far away from the lights in Columbia. A three-year starter at quarterback for the Eagles playing eight-man SCISAA, Achurch has adapted to a variety of coaches and a changing cast of teammates.
Achurch is preparing for another adjustment. The Eagles lost senior running back Charlie Humphries for the season when he broke his clavicle this past week. That loss, coupled with the Eagles' second loss of the season, has players down, Achurch said.
The task begins of rebuilding confidence.
"I think with dedication, a lot of hard work and confidence, we can do a lot better," Achurch said.
The Beaufort Gazette and The Island Packet spoke to Achurch this week and kept him on his toes throughout our Two-Minute Drill.
