At about 2:30 a.m. this morning, a group of people in an apartment on the south end of Hilton Head Island told Beaufort County sheriff’s deputies that they exchanged gunfire with a suspect who was shooting at the apartment from the parking lot.

The residents of unit D6 in the Cordillo Courts apartment complex said they didn’t know the man who had fired at the apartment. No injuries were reported, and no suspects were located at the scene, according to a news release.

About an hour after deputies responded to a report of shots fired, they were called to Springwood Villas for a report of a gunshot victim.

A 24-year-old man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower torso was uncooperative and refused to answer investigators’ questions about how he was injured, the release said.

He was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah for treatment.
