High School Roundup, Sept. 11: HHCA girls top Bluffton for first time in tennis

GIRLS TENNIS

HHCA 4, Bluffton 2: The Eagles defeated the Bobcats for the first time in program history, winning three singles matches and the lone doubles contest.

In singles, Hilton Head Christian's Monica Bundy defeated Taylor Soop at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2; No. 4 Kate Bennett knocked off Lauren Biershank 7-5, 6-3; and Catherine Campbell defeated Anna Rathke at No. 5, 6-1, 6-1.

The Eagles' doubles team of Maddy Bauer and Meriedith Inglis defeated Bluffton's Maya Wright and Cami James 7-5, 6-2 (10-4).

No. 1 Katie Meighan and No. 3 Cooper Baxter won singles matches for Bluffton.

VOLLEYBALL

Thomas Heyward 3, Hilton Head Christian 1: The Rebels prevailed, 25-11, 18-25, 25-5, 25-12.

Chandler Cook paced the winners, posting 12 kills, nine aces and three blocks. Kayla Sanders chipped in seven aces and four digs, and Taylor Ernestine contributed six aces and six assists.

Thomas Heyward improved to 9-3. The Rebels travel today to play Charleston Collegiate.

Hannah Reynolds led the Eagles (3-6) with five kills. Hilton Head Christian plays at 5 tonight at Bible Baptist.

The Rebels won the JV match 22-25, 25-18, 15-9.
