Police: Teens took firefighter's car, crash into tree

Published: September 5, 2012

Two 16-year-old boys were taken to the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice on Saturday after attempting to steal a car owned by a Beaufort firefighter, according to the Beaufort Police Department.

The boys were caught on surveillance cameras breaking into several vehicles parked in the Beaufort Fire Department lot, according to Capt. John Robinson. None of the vehicles was owned by the city or the fire department, Robinson said.

The boys crashed the car into a tree while still in the parking lot. They then ran away, Police Chief Matt Clancy said. Officers are investigating whether the teens are involved in other burglaries, Clancy said.
