VOLLEYBALL
Bluffton High School: The Bobcats went 5-0 against out-of-state competition Saturday to start their season at a "play date" in Savannah.
Bluffton defeated Atlanta's Our Lady of Mercy (25-21, 25-20), Atlanta's Providence Chrisitan (25-12, 25-16), Camden County of St. Mary's, Ga. (25-23, 25-17), Providence of Jacksonville, Fla., (25-12, 20-25, 15-13) and Clarke Central of Athens, Ga. (25-10, 25-8).
Mackenzie Cooler led the Bobcats with 36 kills, 39 assists and seven kill blocks. Jordan Franklin added 30 kills and 38 assists, and Abby Roulston had 22 kills and 10 kill blocks. Morgan Delaplane led the team with 29 digs and Melissa Bornstein had 19 digs.
Bluffton (5-0) competes Friday and Saturday at the Lovette Block Party in Atlanta.
CROSS COUNTRY
Ponds Invitational in Summerville: Beaufort High finished ninth, and Battery Creek was 11th out of 17 teams in the boys division.
Brandon Pratt led Beaufort High, finishing 17th with a time of 18 minutes, 15 seconds. Erik Barbosa was the top Battery Creek runner, placing 20th in 18:25.
Stratford won the boys division and Bishop England was the girls team champion.
