Thomas Heyward 56, Calhoun Academy 0
As this week's matchup with Calhoun Academy approached, Thomas Heyward Academy coach Nic Shuford was concerned with the Rebels' consistency on offense.
Not anymore.
Thomas Heyward (3-0) thrashed Calhoun Academy, 56-0, on Friday night.
"We executed well all the way across," Shuford said. "Out offensive line blocked well and stayed on their blocks downfield, and our backs were able to have big nights."
Senior quarterback JD Tuten carried six times for 120 yards and three scores, while completing all three of his passes for 101 yards and a fourth score -- a 75-yard strike to Bryan Lee Wade.
Tuten's mate in the backfield, senior running back Ryan Day, added 115 yards and two scores on eight carries. Freshman Anthony Sanders added a rushing touchdown.
The Rebels' defense shut down the Cavaliers' strong rushing attack, holding them to just 60 yards rushing and 85 yards total.
Calhoun Academy (1-1) junior wingback Griffin Creekmore, who rushed for 204 yards last week against Laurens Academy, was held to just three yards on five carries.
"The defense was very solid," Shuford said.
Zack Newton intercepted a pitch from the quarterback and went 63 yards for a touchdown.
John Padgett led the team with nine tackles, and Nick Kieffer added seven.
