A man who fell asleep at the wheel of his car on Interstate 95 died Friday morning after he crashed into the back of a parked 18-wheeler, according to Ridgeland police.
At about 3 a.m., the northbound driver of a 2000 Acura drifted off the highway into the commercial-vehicle parking area at mile marker 17. After hitting the tractor trailer, the car caught fire, and the driver was trapped in inside.
Harry Richard Davis, 54, of Rio, W.Va., was in the sleeper compartment of the tractor trailer and was not injured. Cpl. Tim East of the Ridgeland Police Department is investigating the wreck and is awaiting autopsy results to determine the car driver's identity, according to a news release.
