Part of Burkes Beach still under swim advisory

August 31, 2012

A section of beach on Hilton Head Island is under a swimming advisory after high bacteria levels were detected, according to the state Department of Health and Environmental Control.

The affected area includes 200 feet north and south of the beach access at the end of Burkes Beach Road, a DHEC official said.

Swimming is not advised, but it is safe for wading, collecting shells and fishing within the swimming advisory area.
