Prep roundup, Aug. 31: Beaufort High volleyball blanks Whale Branch

A roundup of Thursday's area high school sports action:

VOLLEYBALL

Beaufort High 3, Whale Branch 0: Kaila Smith eight kills, Ashley Tillery had nine digs and Amber Clatterbuck had 10 assists to lead the Eagles (1-1) past the Warriors (1-1), 25-16, 25-20, 25-19.

Bailey Layne four kills and sophomores Katie Stansell and Savannah Malphrus each had two blocks. The Eagles again play Whale Branch at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Beaufort Academy 3, James Island Christian 1: The Eagles used a balanced team effort to pick up their first win of the season, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23.

Carly Cline led the way with 20 assists, three aces, five kills, two blocks and four digs. Mackenzie Blake had 13 assists, three kills and five digs, and Megan Debardelaben finished with nine kills, six digs and two blocks.

Courtney Smith, the Eagles' libero, had a team-best 11 digs.

Katie Gay had five aces, six kills and two blocks, and Charlotte Delfosse added four aces, six kills and four digs. Taylor Vincent recorded three kills and three digs for Beaufort Academy (1-2), which hosts Battery Creek on Wednesday.

Battery Creek 3, Charleston Math and Science 2: Sara Anderson had nine aces and three kills to lead the Dolphins (2-2) to a 18-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-17, 15-12 win.

La'Schirrae Morrall had two blocks, Rebekkah Scott had four aces and Tenielia Leak had four aces, two blocks and two kills for Battery Creek, which travels to Charleston Math and Science for a 6 p.m. Tuesday match.

    Beaufort-Hilton Head Christian ppd.: The Beaufort High School at Hilton Head Christian match scheduled for Thursday was postponed because of rain and will be played Sept. 11 at Hilton Head Christian.
