Has any member of the Beaufort County school board who voted to close Shell Point Elementary School gone to either Riverview Charter School or Broad River Elementary School during pick-up time to see what they have sown?
I doubt it. It was just a vote to them. Never mind the consequences.
I pick up a child at each school. Traffic going into Riverview is backed up both ways on Savannah Highway. This could easily be corrected if Riverview would consult with the former principal of Shell Point Elementary. Shell Point's pick-up ran smoothly, and I never experienced a problem. Broad River Elementary is a total nightmare. Again, traffic is backed up both ways on the road. After waiting over an hour on the first day, I chose to go inside on the second day. I was told I had to get back in the car line, which I refused to do, as I have been authorized by the child's parents to pick up the child. Even inside the school, I still had to wait 25 minutes.
During that wait, I overheard an employee say that there was nothing they could do about the traffic since they have practically doubled their enrollment because of the closure of Shell Point Elementary.
Thank you, school board, for the wonderful job (sarcasm intended). If it were in my power, you would all be terminated from your positions for the damage you have done to our schools.
