Mackays Creek boaters thank all who helped when boat started sinking

info@islandpacket.comAugust 27, 2012

I want to thank those who assisted me and my six guests following the sinking of our boat on Aug. 4 in Mackays Creek. Unfortunately, we didn't get the names of many who helped. First, to the two men who stopped and pulled all of us from the water and stayed until we could take our guests back to land. Your prompt arrival and rescue meant all of us were in the water for only a few minutes. Hopefully, you will see this and know how much we appreciate your heroics. Also, thanks to the other boats that stopped and picked up some of the items that had floated to the surface

Next, thanks to the Sheriff's Office Marine Division deputy and the Department of Natural Resources staff member who stayed with us for the four-plus hours between the sinking and the arrival of the tow company. Their help in getting us connected to the right people so the boat could be pulled up and towed away was much appreciated. The two men from the tow company are to be commended for their work.

Finally, thanks to my neighbor and friend who came out thinking he was going to tow us back to the dock only to find out our boat had sunk. He took my guests to the dock and then stayed with me for more than five hours at the sinking site.

No words can adequately say how thankful I am for all the people who came to our aid.
