Joel Garrett of Beaufort stands in the studio of his new radio station, 94.5 The Coast, in Habersham Marketplace in Beaufort on Friday morning.

Not only is 94.5 FM The Coast locally owned and operated from Habersham Marketplace, the owner lives so close to the studio he could descend a flight of stairs in his pajamas to go to work.
"I actually live above the radio station, so it's like the perfect live-work situation," Joel Garrett said.
But Garrett said he'll make sure to get dressed, because he wants people to take advantage of the open-door policy and stop by the station at 25-B Market St.
The Coast started about a month ago, he said, and has a "beach, soul and rock 'n' roll" format with music from the 1960s, '70s and '80s. Garrett was a part owner of 104.9 The Surf, which launched in 2010, but said he sold his share to focus on the Beaufort market.
"I was more of a Beaufort guy, and my partner was more of a Hilton Head guy," he said.
Garrett plans remote broadcasts around the Beaufort area and will feature special segments with residents, business leaders and other guests. General manager Karl Wells and on-air personality Brandy Yates also are from Beaufort.
