A Hilton Head Island High School teacher has won a national award.
Kathy Weatherhead was named a 2012 Outstanding Biology Teacher by the National Association of Biology Teachers.
Weatherhead teaches advanced-placement, according to a news release from the Beaufort County School District. She has taught at Hilton Head High for 26 of her 35 years as an educator.
In addition to a certificate, Weatherhead will receive a microscope, teaching materials and a year's membership in the association.
She will be formally recognized by the association at its national convention this fall.
The association has been giving the award since 1961. It recognizes one teacher from each state for teaching ability, experience, inventiveness and initiative.
