Afternoon school bus riders at Broad River Elementary had a longer than usual wait Monday because of traffic jams, according to a school district official.
The school, which took on students this year from the shuttered Shell Point Elementary, was overwhelmed by the unexpectedly large number of parents who came to pick up their children, according to Jim Foster, Beaufort County School District spokesman. Those cars led to a traffic jam so long that one school official reported it took an hour to drive from Broad River Elementary to Robert Smalls Middle, about two miles away, Foster said.
Foster said some changes will be made at Broad River to try to alleviate traffic.
