The USC Beaufort women's soccer team will host NCAA Division II Coker College at 5 p.m. Friday in a scrimmage, marking the Sand Sharks' final tune-up before their Aug. 24 regular-season opener against Brenau (Ga.).
Admission for Friday's scrimmage is free. All home games are played at Fin Land Field on USCB's Hilton Head Gateway Campus.
BASEBALL ADDS ASSISTANT
The Sand Sharks baseball team has added former Auburn University player and assistant coach Wes Gilmer to its staff, head coach Bryan Lewallyn announced Tuesday.
Gilmer, 23, was a career .286 hitter for the Tigers from 2008-11 before joining the coaching staff as a student assistant in 2012 while completing his degree in exercise science. He was named team captain as a senior in 2011.
The Tigers went 131-103 in Gilmer's four years on the squad, including an SEC West title in 2010, when he hit .341 in 82 at-bats with three doubles and two home runs. Auburn went 31-28 during his one season as a student assistant coach.
"Wes is going to be a great addition to our staff," Lewallyn said in a release. "We're very excited to have him and look forward to seeing him help our players get to the next level both offensively and defensively."
The Sand Sharks went 41-19 and qualified for the Avista-NAIA World Series in Lewallyn's first year as head coach last season.
