As the chairwoman of the Bridges Preparatory School Charter Committee, I would like to thank the organizations that allow us to hold our board meetings in their facilities.

The YMCA and the Boys & Girls Club, both of Beaufort, have graciously opened their doors to our needs.

We had a scheduled board meeting Aug. 6 at the Boys & Girls Club. Due to an emergency with one of its employees, no one was available to allow us entry to the facility. What did we do? We held our meeting in the parking lot. This, to me, speaks volumes to what kind of committee we have formed. Instead of rescheduling, we persevered with the traffic on one side, the air-conditioner unit on the other, barking dogs across the street, the heat and the ants. We even had a handful of community members show up, and they stuck around as well.

This is what is going to make Bridges Prep successful: a dedicated committee and an involved community. I want to personally thank the committee and the community members who attended our meeting for remaining flexible and adapting to the situation.
