Director of Disabilities and Special Needs Department appreciates Beaufort community

Published: August 14, 2012

It has been said that you can tell about the place where you live by the way the community treats its "disenfranchised."

Beaufort not only provides beautiful marsh views, historic homes and breathtaking sunsets, the people are warm and generous and are willing to help improve the lives of others. Even their small efforts can make a big difference.

Recently, our Beaufort County Disabilities and Special Needs Department staff took a group of disabled adults to a local restaurant for an outing. While our group was eating, a couple from another table told our staff how much they appreciate the work we do and wanted to contribute "in a small way." To demonstrate their appreciation and kindness, they paid for all of the meals. This is not the first time this has happened when our staff and consumers are in the community.

For those of us who have the privilege of living in Beaufort County, we not only appreciate its beauty, but also the generosity and caring of those who live here.
