Autopsy should reveal if man is Taylor, reported missing from Sun City Hilton Head

Beaufort County authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine whether a body found in the woods Monday off Okatie Village Drive is that of a missing Sun City Hilton Head man.

David Taylor, 55, was last seen at about 11 p.m. Friday when he was reported missing from his home on Astral Lane, according to a news release from the Sun City Hilton Head Community Association.

Taylor left his cellphone, medication and wallet -- with his driver's license, other identification and credit cards -- at home, the release said.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said it was notified of Taylor's disappearance Saturday night.

During the investigation, Taylor's gold 2007 Toyota Camry was found parked on the side of Okatie Village Drive, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sgt. Robin McIntosh said.

The Sheriff's Office K9 Tracking Team searched a wooded area nearby and found the body of a man a short distance into the treeline, McIntosh said.

Authorities withheld the identity of the man Monday pending the results of an autopsy and positive identification of the body. The cause of death was not released Monday.

Taylor was not believed to be in any danger at the time of his disappearance, nor do authorities suspect foul play, McIntosh said.
