The Baptist Church of Beaufort was broken into last week.

A safe, credit cards and other items were stolen, it was reported Saturday to the Beaufort Police Department.

Credit cards belonging to the church have been used at Walmart, and store surveillance cameras show people using the cards, police say.

The burglary was reported soon after 9 a.m. Saturday when a church employee arrived at work.

Some of the items stolen were recovered floating in the river later in the day, police said.
