Beaufort-Jasper Academy for Career Excellence


An open house is planned for 1-7:30 p.m. Aug. 15. Pick up class schedules, visit teachers, purchase uniforms at a discounted rate or pick up uniforms ordered in June. There will be a free spaghetti dinner from 5-7 p.m. and door prizes.

Bluffton High School


Rising senior Devin Oliver, one of Palmetto Electric's 2012 Washington Youth Tour winners, was selected to represent other students on the national Youth Leadership Council as the 2012-13 YLC National Spokesperson. Devin was chosen as the spokesperson based on his speech "E Pluribus Unum," which means "out of many, one." Devin also will represent Palmetto Electric Cooperative and South Carolina next year at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Annual Membership Meeting.

Bluffton Middle School


Any students interested in playing Bluffton Barracuda Football can pick up a flier in the main office. Details:,

Hilton Head Christian Academy


The Parent-Teacher Fellowship is looking for new board members. The fellowship consists of parents who are excited about serving the school and being liaisons between the faculty/staff and parents. Details:

Hilton Head Island Early Childhood Center

Hilton Head Island Elementary School


The back-to-school PTA expo is 5-6:30 p.m. Aug. 15. Pick up your car hang tag, cafeteria information, bus transportation and sign up for volunteer opportunities.

An informal drop-in session for first grade families to meet with teachers is 8:30-10 a.m. Aug. 17.


The school needs old tennis balls for the bottom of chair legs. Drop them off at the front office.


School logo shirts are available for $10 at the school office.

Hilton Head Island Elementary School for the Creative Arts


All students are required to provide proof of residency. Completed forms can be brought to the office 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. A translator will be available the week of Aug. 13.

Hilton Head Island High School

Hilton Head Island Middle School


Ninth-grade orientation is Aug. 8 at Hilton Head Island High School. Students will spend a day at the high school, learn their schedule, get their lockers and have a cookout.

Hilton Head Preparatory School


Lower School and new student orientation is Aug. 14.

The first day of school starts at 8 a.m. Aug. 15.

The school will present the third annual Coastal Clean Water Festival from 5 to 10 p.m. Sept. 15 at Shelter Cover Harbour on Hilton Head Island. The free evening's festivities will include live music by The Chilly Willy Band and Domino Theory with Candace Woodson, as well as other professional and local high school bands. There will be an entertainment area for kids, local food vendors and educational booths for environmental groups. All local business and community groups whose continued success depends on a healthy marine environment are invited to participate with an informational booth at the event. Details:

Michael C. Riley Elementary School


Registration for new and returning students will take place in the main building 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 8 and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. or 5-7 p.m. Aug. 9. Please bring two current proofs of residency. Details: 843-706-8300

The first day of school begins at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 20.

School office hours for the summer are 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays through Aug. 21.
