A 35-year-old St. Helena Island man is dead following a domestic dispute Friday night in which his sister allegedly stabbed him to death, according to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Desmond Holmes died following an argument and physical altercation with his sister, Gennece Green, 43, on the porch of their mother's residence on Bush Ivy Lane, according to Capt. Bob Bromage of the Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred around 8:25 p.m.

Holmes was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital by Beaufort County EMS, where he was pronounced dead, Bromage said in the release.

Green and other witnesses at the scene were interviewed and the investigation is continuing, the release said.

Green has not been charged, Bromage said, due to the circumstances surrounding the dispute. He declined to elaborate further.

Holmes' body was sent to the Medical University of South Carolina on Saturday for an autopsy.
