A man was charged with murder Wednesday in the death of a 19-year-old Ridgeland man who was shot in the neck Saturday night.

Benjamin Shawn Griffin Jr., 20, also of Ridgeland was arrested near Seal Fish Circle on charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

He is accused of killing Francisco Javier Adame.

The two were in a car with two others near Nettles Road about 9 p.m. Saturday when an argument began, and Griffin allegedly shot Adame, according to Roy Hughes, chief deputy of the Jasper County Sheriff's Office. The cause of the argument is still being investigated.

"We do know at one point Mr. Griffin was outside the vehicle," Hughes said, adding that neither Griffin nor Adame was the driver.

Adame was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jasper County sheriff's deputies, U.S. marshals and the Beaufort/Jasper Multi Agency Drug Task Force assisted in the arrest.
