Beaufort men towed from Broad River amid storms

Two men were rescued by the Beaufort Water Search and Rescue team late Friday after the pontoon boat they were in couldn't reach shore from the Broad River before severe thunderstorms struck.

Strong winds and pouring rain pushed the pontoon boat into a marsh near Ribbon Creek, according to Beaufort Water Search and Rescue spokesman Dick Jennings. Twelve of its rescuers worked about four and a half hours to find the stranded boaters and tow them to safety. Neither boater was injured, Jennings said.
