The purpose of governance is to govern in the beat interests of citizens.
The city of Beaufort's Civic Master Plan is a divisive effort purported to be what is best for Beaufort. The planners seek approval for their effort by a divide-and-conquer approach, wherein they deal from a stacked deck to each of several individual neighborhoods separately.
The devil is always in the details, and as these details are revealed, there is a growing unease among the governed.
Exactly whose best interests are served by a proposed road crossing Hermitage Road and the narrowing of Ribaut Road?
I propose a referendum to determine what the people of Beaufort consider their own "best interests." Unstack the deck; let's vote.
