Gazette Class Notes for July 30

  • Fifth-grader Queen Hamilton II recently attended the National Young Scholars Program at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. The program is for outstanding third- through fifth-graders. The students participate in interactive activities such as model forensics labs and a journey into the human body. Hamilton attends Forest Hill Elementary School in Walterboro and is the daughter of Queen Hamilton and Richard D. Hamilton of Seabrook.



  • Spirit night is 5 -8 p.m. Aug. 9 at Arby's for the cheerleaders.

  • Schedule pickup days are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on the following dates: Aug. 13 for seniors; Aug. 14 for juniors; and Aug. 15 for sophomores. Juniors and sophomores will have their school pictures taken. Details: 843-322-5582

  • Freshman orientation is 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Aug. 8. Freshmen will pick up their schedules and have their school pictures taken at this time. Details: 843-322-5582

  • The PTSO will meet at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 in the media center. The SIC meeting will follow at 6:30 p.m.


  • The SADD Club is collecting school supplies for CAPA. Donations may be left in the front office through Aug. 15.

  • PTSO and SIC nomination forms are available in the front office or on the school's website. The deadline to submit applications is Aug. 31.



  • Football, cheerleading, girls tennis, swimming and volleyball practices begin July 30.



  • The back-to-school open house is 6-7:30 p.m. Aug. 16 in the cafeteria. Class lists will be posted, free and reduced-price lunch applications will be available, and uniforms will be available for purchase. Dinner is provided.



  • An open house is 1-7:30 p.m. Aug. 15. Pick up your student's class schedule, visit teachers, purchase uniforms at a discounted rate or pick up uniforms ordered in June. There will be door prizes and a free spaghetti dinner from 5 to 7 p.m.


  • The Beaufort High School Class of 1958 Tidal Wave Breakfast Club meetings are at 9 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month at Golden Corral, 122 Robert Smalls Parkway. Details: 843-525-1822, 843-524-8903
