Authorities: Man assaults car repairman

Published: July 24, 2012

A Hilton Head Island man was charged Tuesday with assaulting and robbing a man who was repairing his car on June 22, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Quintin Rivers, 21, was charged with strong-arm robbery and is being held for prosecution at the county detention center.

The victim reported that a friend had set him up to earn extra money by doing automotive repairs on Baygall Road for a man he didn't know.

At some point during the day, his friend and the vehicle's owner -- later identified as Rivers -- approached him and became angry because the victim could not finish the repairs in one day, a news release said. The two men pushed him to the ground, punched and kicked him repeatedly, and removed an undisclosed amount of cash from his pants pocket.

The victim continued to work on the vehicle after the two men threatened to assault him again if he did not quickly finish the repairs, according to the release. At about 5 p.m. the victim was dropped off at a gas station on the island's north end. He had minor injuries and refused medical attention.
