The S.C. Highway Patrol has a few details about a vehicle whose driver is suspected of running over a Hilton Head Island man on the Cross Island Parkway on Saturday and is asking the public for help.
Jimmy Hedrick, 45, was pronounced dead at 3 a.m. at the scene of the accident, west of the parkway's toll booths. His 2006 Ford Ranger hit the median, causing it to overturn several times and tossing Hedrick out of the car and onto the road.
The car that then struck him and drove away might have been a white or light-color car or SUV, said Lance Cpl. Bob Beres. Troopers have issued a flyer encouraging witnesses to call Highway Patrol at 843-953-6000 or S.C. Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
Hedrick was involved in a fender-bender late Friday before the crash early Saturday, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office. In the first collision, Hedrick was deemed at fault for rear-ending another car at the Sea Pines traffic circle at 11:40 p.m., according to an incident report.
No injuries were reported and drugs and alcohol were not involved, the report said.
