While waiting in the drive-through of a McDonald's on Boundary Street in Beaufort at about 4 a.m., Jeremiah Tiger suddenly became aggravated by a sound he apparently couldn't ignore -- the engine noise of a pickup truck idling behind him.

Tiger, 23, of Burton was charged by Beaufort police with two counts of aggravated assault and a felony weapons charge for his reaction to the irritation.

Witnesses told investigators that Tiger first verbally threatened the occupants of the truck, then pulled out a pistol, pointed it at them and threatened to shoot, Beaufort Police Chief Matt Clancy said.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported, authorities said.

Others at the restaurant called 911 and also reported seeing Tiger acting erratically in the moments leading up to and after he pulled a gun, Clancy said.

"He reportedly was acting wildly and jumped up on one of the signs at the business and began swinging on it," Clancy said.

Tiger then left the parking lot but not before he was spotted by a police officer, who pulled him over, Clancy said.

A .45-caliber pistol was found in the vehicle, according to authorities.

Clancy said the arresting officer did not believe Tiger had been drinking but was unsure whether he had used drugs before the incident.

Tiger was being held Monday at the Beaufort County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing, according to the jail log.

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison on each assault charge, according to state law.

The weapons charge carries an additional five-year sentence.
