BEAUFORT COUNTY JUNIORS PERFORM WELL AT HARDCOURT STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
Alex Likins of Hilton Head Island captured first place at last week's Junior Hardcourt State Championship, one of several area players to fare well in the event at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center.
Likins, the top seed, dropped the opening set of his championship match in Boys 12-and-under singles, but bounced back to win the next two sets and the title. He also finished second in doubles, teaming with Lleyton Dacuba of Mount Pleasant.
Madison Dillon, also of Hilton Head, was runner-up in Girls 12 singles and teamed with fellow islander Carmen Jordan to win the doubles title. They defeated Beaufort's Madison Daniel and Timmonsville's Zoe Cauthen in the final. Daniel won the consolation championship in singles.
Top-seeded Colby Burke of Hilton Head Island finished third in the Boys 18 singles division, dropping a three-set match in the semifinals to eventual champion Jonathan Edwards.
