Opposing health care law only prudent thing to do

Published: July 15, 2012

In response to a July 9 letter, I ask: Did President Barack Obama or any of the Democrats in the House or Senate listen to the American public's wishes when ramming the health care bill through? I believe not.

This president only represents the people who agree with his wanting to completely transform America. That could be the reason the 2010 election resulted in many Democrats losing. Also, there will still be millions of Americans who will not have access to insurance by 2020 with this new law. And we might not be paying for emergency care for uninsured citizens, but we will surely be paying, by way of higher taxes, to subsidize those who can't afford to pay for insurance.

There are 21 new taxes in this law. That doesn't count the tax you'll pay if you choose not to buy insurance. So what is the difference?

In the meantime, the quality of care will go down for all Americans, and the elderly will be hurt the most. Most important of all, we have lost another freedom. This law is a "no win" for all Americans.

I praise Rep. Tim Scott for his actions, and I can only hope that some people can see the light.
