Pedestrian hit by car in Beaufort

Published: July 13, 2012

A man was seriously injured after he was struck by a vehicle Friday at the intersection of S.C. 170 and Parris Island Gateway, according to the Burton Fire Department.

The accident occurred at about 6:20 a.m. near Walmart when a driver on S.C. 170 apparently didn't see the man crossing Parris Island Gateway, Beaufort Police Chief Matt Clancy said. Clancy said the driver had the green light.

The pedestrian appeared to have "potentially serious injuries," Burton Fire Department spokesman Dan Byrne said.

Details such as the man's condition and name, and whether charges would be filed were not available Friday evening from the Beaufort Police Department.
