Eleven players, including Ben Curtis, Rickie Fowler, Bill Haas, Camilo Villegas and Beaufort's Mark Anderson, have taken home the Players Amateur championship.

The 12th will be among more than 80 of the best amateur golfers from around the world who tee it up today at Bluffton's Berkeley Hall Golf Club.

The winner will earn an exemption into the 2013 RBC Heritage presented by Boeing.

An area golfer will be among the first to tee it up. USC Beaufort student Luke McClellan's group will be the first ones off at No. 1 at 7:15 a.m. Former Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy student and Bluffton resident Mike Balzer goes off in the second group at 7:25 a.m.

University of Alabama junior Bobby Wyatt, who shot a 57 at the 2010 Alabama Boys State Championship and is ranked No. 3 in the Scratch Players World Amateur Rankings, will tee off at 7:45 a.m.

Matthew NeSmith, the 2011 Junior Heritage champion who will play for South Carolina in the fall, tees off at 8:55 a.m.

Current Clemson golfers Crawford Reeves (8:45) and Billy Kennerly (11:05) are in the field, as is Cody Proveaux (8:25), the 2011 Rolex Junior Player of the Year who will be a freshman for the Tigers in the fall.

Beaufort's Rob Simmons will tee off at 9:35 a.m., while IJGA student Matt Cheng starts at 9:25 a.m.
