Obama has done much with no help from GOP

Published: July 10, 2012

I am sorry that so many of your readers are exposed to constant lies about the accomplishments of our president.

President Barack Obama saved the auto industry and 1.4 million jobs. Ask the people of Michigan and Ohio. If it were not for the recalcitrant Republicans in Congress, other job proposals would be in place today, and more people would be at work.

By putting into place the Affordable Health Care Act, insurers will not be able to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions. Insurance companies much justify rate hikes and provide rebates if they don't spend at least 80 percent of consumers' premiums on care instead of overhead, marketing and profits. Thirty-two million more Americans will be able to afford insurance for the first time, and nearly all Americans -- 95 percent of those under age 65 -- will have insurance. That is if the Republican governors, our governor included, do not refuse federal money to spite Obama's efforts.

The president has proved his commitment to the women of America by signing into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which ensures that women are paid the same as men for the same work. The new health insurance law will be required to cover women's preventive services, such as mammograms, domestic violence screenings and contraception, without charge. Of course, all of these were achieved without much Republican support.

Some of us are awake and, no matter how many lies are spewed, we will continue to support our president.
