The Beaufort County Coroners Office released the identity Monday of a man found dead over the weekend behind his home on Ladys Island.
The body of Gust Friedemann, 32, was discovered in his backyard on White Dogwood Road by a neighbor at about 10 a.m. Saturday, according to authorities. Friedemann is believed to be a native of the Walterboro area, according to a Coroners Office spokeswoman.
The man likely had been dead for about three days when he was discovered, the Coroners Office has said. The neighbor who reported the body had last seen Friedemann alive June 29.
The cause of death is not yet known.
The Coroners Office said it will take weeks for the results of the autopsy, performed this weekend at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, to be released.
Beaufort County Sheriffs Office investigators believe the cause of death was natural or accidental.
