Man wounded Saturday during drive-by shooting on St. Helena

Published: July 8, 2012

An 18-year-old man walking near Seaside and Ball Park roads on St. Helena Island late Saturday was wounded multiple times by shots fired from a passing car, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

The man is in stable condition at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where he is being treated for the wounds. The drive-by shooting occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m., according to Capt. Bob Bromage.

The vehicle from which the suspects fired is described only as a small, silver car in an incident report. Bromage said investigators are interviewing witnesses but have not named suspects.

The victim has said he was walking home when the vehicle pulled up and shots were fired, Bromage said.

Anyone with information about the drive-by shooting is asked to call Sgt. John Kelleher at 843-255-3418 or the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777.
