The Inn at Palmetto Bluff has been proclaimed the sixth-best resort in the country by Travel + Leisure magazine.

The New York-based publication released its rankings Friday.

It's the most recent accolade for the property along Bluffton's May River. It was named the best hotel in the country in February by U.S. News & World Report.

Marty Wall, the inn's general manager, attributed the recognition to "a dedicated team of employees who understand their goal is to create lasting memories."

The inn also was named the 79th-best hotel in the world, according to Travel + Leisure's 2012 World's Best List, which annually asks readers to evaluate properties' facilities, location, service, restaurants and value.

The inn was developed by Charlotte-based Crescent Resources. It is part of a 22,000-acre development, which also features homes and several public amenities.

"I like to compare the property to a piece of canvas, and stroke by stroke, they're painting out their vision," Wall said. "It means a lot to have those efforts recognized."

The inn, which includes 50 private cottages, is managed by Auberge Resorts, which oversees six exclusive properties around the country.

Earlier this year, the inn was one of only four properties in South Carolina to receive a 2012 Five Diamond rating from AAA.

It also received the Forbes Travel Guide Four Star Award for 2012.

It wasn't the only property in South Carolina recognized Friday on the Travel + Leisure lists. Wentworth Mansion in Charleston was named the "Top Small City Hotel in the Continental U.S." Two other Charleston properties made that list. The Market Pavilion Hotel was ranked fourth, and the Planters Inn came in at sixth.

The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island was ranked the 11th-best resort in the country, and The Willcox in Aiken was named the third-best inn in the continental U.S.
