Fire destroys St. Helena home

Published: July 5, 2012

A fire destroyed a home early Thursday on St. Helena Island.

The Lady's Island-St. Helena Fire District was called to the home in the Scott Hill community at about 12:15 a.m. by one of the three family members who lived at 4 Sha Vaisa Lane.

The other two family members were on vacation, fire district spokesman Lee Levesque said. Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about three hours.

The 2,000-square-foot mobile home had a permanent foundation and had several additions to it. Only two walls remained standing.

The origin and cause of the fire have not been determined.

No one was injured.

The American Red Cross has provided the family with money to replace food and clothing and with a kit filled with personal hygiene items.
