LONGHORNS, HURRICANES WIN GA/SC BORDER WARS
The Longhorns, an 11-and-under baseball team from Hilton Head Island, took first place in the 11U gold division of the USSSA Georgia/South Carolina Border Wars tournament this weekend in Pooler, Ga., while the HHBA Hurricanes of Hilton Head took first place in the 11U silver bracket.
The Longhorns, coached by Chris Seelbach, went 4-0 in the tournament. They capped it off with a 9-1 win over the CBC Outlaws in the championship game.
Stratton Pollitzer pitched a one-hitter in the silver championship matchup, which the Hurricanes won 7-2 over the Effingham Outlaws. The Hurricanes -- who bounced back from a pair of close losses on the first day -- were led at the plate by Gage Hurlbut, Kamryn Gleason and Josh Patterson.
The Bluffton Blaze went 2-1 in the 13U division, falling by one run in the semifinals. They outscored their first two opponents 27-0.
