DIXIE YOUTH MINORS (9-10)
The Beaufort American 9- and 10-year-old all-stars defeated Hampton-Varnville, 15-8, on Thursday night in the opening game of their Dixie Youth Minors baseball sub-district tournament in Walterboro.
Stefan Wechsler went 3 for 4 to lead Beaufort's offense. Christian Londono was 2 for 3 with a home run, Paul Winland went 2 for 3 with a triple and Cal Harvey also was 2 for 3.
Winland allowed one hit in three innings, and Londono gave up two hits in two innings for Beaufort American, which plays again at 8 p.m. tonight.
