A 25-year-old man was denied bond Friday for his alleged role in a shoot-out early Thursday at a St. Helena Island night club that left two people dead and two injured.
Magistrate Richard Brooks denied Lucas Miles Morgan of St. Helena bond on one count of attempted murder. Morgan's case will next be brought to a grand jury, but a date has not yet been set, according to Daniel Brownstein, spokesman for the 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office.
St. Helena resident Joseph David Bowers, 26, charged with murder in connection with the shooting, will remain in the Beaufort County Detention Center until his bond hearing July 30 in Circuit Court. Magistrates can't set bonds on murder charges.
Both Morgan and Bowers have criminal histories, according to the county jail log.
Morgan has pending firearms charges in three different cases dating to May 2010.
In January 2011, Morgan and Darryl James Pryor, 25, allegedly attempted to rob a Beaufort resident in his home at gunpoint. The resident pulled out a handgun and shot Pryor. Police later found Morgan hiding in the woods, authorities said.
Bowers has been arrested five times since 2002 on various drug-related charges. He pleaded guilty to two counts of simple crack possession. The other cases were dropped by the prosecutor or he was found not guilty by a jury.
The fight at Midnight Soul Patrol on 56 Toomer Road broke out between "feuding parties" at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, according Sgt. Robin McIntosh of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Dante Kendall Bailey, 33, of St. Helena was pronounced dead at the scene. Lucas Morgan's brother, Michael Douglas Morgan, 24, was shot during the fight and died at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Two other men were injured. Robert Ivin Goodwine, 19, was treated at Beaufort Memorial Hospital and released Thursday. Richard Earl Green Jr., 24, was flown to MUSC, but information on his condition was unavailable Friday.
McIntosh said the investigation continues and no further information was being released Friday.
