Four golfers with area ties will tee it up for Team USA in the upcoming Euro Cup in St. Andrews, Scotland.
Hilton Head Island's Nicholas Russell and Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy student Daulet Tuleubayev of Kazakhstan will both compete in the Boys Under 14 division.
Elizabeth Hammel of Wexford, Pa., and Kali Boyer of New Ringgold, Pa., both students at the Hilton Head Island-based Hank Haney IJGA, will play in the Girls Under 19 Division.
In the Euro Cup, golfers from the Hilton Head Island-based International Junior Golf Tour will compete against golfers from the Canadian Junior Golf Association and the FIFE Team Scotland July 20-28 in 54 holes of triangular match play at three golf courses -- Leven Golf Club, Scotscraig Golf Club and Drumoig Golf Club.
LOCALS PLAY WELL AT WSCGA JR. CHAMPIONSHIP
Four area girls competed in the Women's S.C. Golf Association's Junior Championship last week at Columbia Country Club in Blythewood.
North Augusta's McKenzie Talbert won the tournament by four strokes with a 3-under-par three-day score of 72-71-69--212.
Bluffton High School's Brandi Hammonds, 17, shot a 77-77-76--230, while teammate Kasidy Beckel shot a 77-81-81--239. Hilton Head Island High's Nathalie Lezcano, 16, shot 83-79-79--241, and Hilton Head Island's Anna Eddy, 13, shot 91-82-91--264.
SECESSION'S ROGERS WINS ASSISTANT'S TITLE
Secession Golf Club's David Rogers made six birdies and two bogeys on the way to a 4-under-par 68 and a three-stroke victory Monday in the Assistant's Championship No. 1 at Old South Golf Links.
Berkeley Hall's Nicholas Coursey was second at 71, followed by Charles Fox Jr., also of Berkeley Hall, at even-par 72.
The next Assistant's Championship event is set for 2 p.m. Thursday, July 18 at Callawassie Island Club.
