A letter writer lauds Germany and quite appropriately. Germans benefit from relative population homogeneity, a good work ethic and a feeling of social responsibility, leading to adherence to the law and payment of taxes.
But the green push is a disaster, as pointed out in a recent article in Der Spiegel, with huge numbers of people unable to pay electric bills as the costs soar. Another article points out that instead of becoming the leader in solar power, German solar companies are going bankrupt as the country becomes the market for China. Solyndra, anybody?
Hang around for the next elections, the ouster of Chancellor Angela Merkel, and an increase in the country's socialist bent, while fiscal responsibility is eroded. Then see whether Germany has all the answers.
