Hilton Head Island Elementary School for the Creative ArtsACHIEVEMENTS
P.E. teacher Mrs. Wheeler and the Strength Team were named one of the nine regional winners and received a cash award of $25,000 in a nationwide competition designed to identify and reward the country's most creative and effective school-based programs to promote children's physical activity. The South Carolina Arts Commission has awarded the school an Arts in the Basic Curriculum grant for $5,624 for the 2012-13 school year. The grant will be used to support an arts-infused curriculum. Art teacher Sylvia Pitts was a finalist for the Contemporary Artist of the Year Award from the Columbia Museum of Art. Her piece, "Red Eyed Frog," was one of the few pieces chosen for a juried show.
