Boxer 'Shannon The Cannon' beaten by Hilton Head publicist, reality TV star Kali Bowyer in court

Celebrity publicist, radio personality and reality TV star Kali Bowyer has won a $420,000 judgment against professional heavyweight boxer Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs.

Bowyer, who lives on Hilton Head Island, was hired by Briggs as a publicist from September through December 2009, according to federal court documents. She helped the two-time former heavyweight champion and asthmatic boxer earn $2.8 million but never received commissions she was owed, according to the documents.

Bowyer claims Briggs owed her $420,000 for her services, based on a 15 percent commission on his earnings, including endorsements and sponsorship money.

Briggs did not respond to Bowyer's claims in court filings and did not appear Thursday at a hearing where U.S. District Court Judge Sol Blatt Jr. ordered Briggs to pay the full amount with interest.

Attempts Monday to reach Briggs or a representative for comment were unsuccessful.

"They knew what we were up to," said Bluffton attorney Marshall Horton, who represented Bowyer. "They received the paperwork and were contacted by legal counsel for Mr. Briggs. But for whatever reason, he chose not to defend himself."

Bowyer, 40, a former tabloid journalist turned publicist, is best known for her paternity battle in 2007 with comedian and actor Chris Rock. She also made appearances on the VH1 reality TV series "Famous Food" as publicist for Heidi Montag. Bowyer has lived on Hilton Head since 2010.

"We had a contract," she said in a phone interview Monday. "I did my job, and he's done this to a number of other publicists, and it's finally catching up with him. I'm glad it's finally over with."

Briggs began his professional career in 1992 and was undefeated in his first 25 fights. He beat George Foreman in a controversial decision for the unofficial, lineal heavyweight title in 1997 and knocked out Sergei Liakhovich in 2006 for the WBO heavyweight title. Briggs was hospitalized for 12 days in October 2010 after being battered for 12 rounds by Vitali Klitschko in a WBC title bout in Hamburg, Germany, losing in a unanimous decision.
