Registration for the Beaufort County School District Robotics Camp is open. Details:

Buffton High School


  • Six representatives of the Bluffton High School JROTC will provide the color guard for ceremonies and presentation of colors at a Flag Day celebration at 10 a.m. June 14 behind the pavilion of Sun City Hilton Head. JROTC Battalion Commander Devin Oliver will deliver a speech. This summer, JROTC cadets also will attend leadership training at Fort Jackson in Columbia; Parris Island; and at Hunter Army Air Field in Savannah.

  • Summer school starts June 11.


  • Sport physicals for the 2012-13 school year will be offered 1-2 p.m. June 17 in the gym of Hilton Head Island Middle School. The cost is $10.

  • Any students interested in playing Bluffton Barracuda Footbal can pick up an informational flyer in the main office. Details:,

  • The school office will be open from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday for the weeks of June 25, July 8-July 29 and Aug. 5. The office will be closed July 4 and will be open during regular hours the remainder of the week.

  • Governor's School for Science and Mathematics


  • Aidan Brougham-Cook of Hilton Head and Alyssa Keriazakos of Bluffton recently graduated from the school in Hartsville.

  • Hilton Head Island Early Childhood Center

  • Extended Learning Time is this week.

  • The school needs old tennis balls for the bottom of chair legs. They can be dropped off at the front office.


  • Re-enrollment and proof of residency forms are due in the main office.

  • School logo shirts are available for $10 at the school office.

  • Hilton Head Island High School


  • The Camera Club of Hilton Head Island recently announced the winners of its 2012 Kurtzberg Awards for black and white photos. First place was awarded to student Will Lattman for his entry, "Eyes." Second place went to student Jessica Smith for her entry, "Passing Afternoon." Third place went to student Griffin Bradley for "The Setting Sun." All three winners are students of Patty Schoelkopf-Lewis' class. In addition, Jessica's entry was selected by the Photographic Society of America for display at their September conference to be held in San Francisco. The Kurtzberg Awards started in 1998 and are presented in honor of the Camera Club's founder, Larry Kurtzberg.

  • Hilton Head Christian Academy


  • The Parent Teacher Fellowship is looking for new board members. The fellowship consists of parents who are excited about serving the school and being liaisons between the faculty/staff and parents. Details:

  • Hilton Head Island Middle School


  • Registration is open for Virtual Keyboarding, an eight-week summer course in which students can earn .5 credit. The course is for rising eighth- through 12th-graders with computer and Internet access. Details:

  • Rising ninth-graders are encouraged to participate in the school district's Virtual Summer School for AP Human Geography, English 1, Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2. Students who successfully complete the modules will earn extra credit from their classroom teacher during the 2012-13 school year. Register at

  • Hilton Head Preparatory School


  • Nine students recently received the Frederica Carson Art Purchase Award for visual artwork. Students submit pieces for consideration in the annual program in which Hilton Head Prep buys and permanently displays pieces of student artwork. The following students were honored this year: recent graduates Emily Blackshire and Sarah Garratt; 11th-graders Gracie Anderson and Riley Gula; seventh-graders Abby Kandel, Catherine Sheehan and Foster Willey; and third-graders Halsey Williamson and Elizabeth Hudak.

  • Red Cedar Elementary School


  • July is Re-Registration Month for Red Cedar Elementary. Plan on coming to the school for about 45 minutes in the month of July to re-register. Bring a current bill and copy of your mortgage or rental agreement to re-enroll your child. The school will give out a drawstring backpack to each student that is re-registered in July.   • The eighth-grade graduates are: Jillian Angner, Kaelyn Binns, Austin Borasky, Alex Borelli, Alison Cohen, Sydney Conrad, Bailey Fallon, Savannah Franklin, Emanuel Lopez, Nicole Lopez, Kevin Palacio, Jacqueline Tobin and Lauren White.
