The 66 students of Hardeeville High School's Class of 2012 graduated Thursday in a ceremony at the school.
Total amount of scholarship money earned by the graduates: More than $614,000
Speakers: Valedictorian and salutatorian
Valedictorian: Tamekia Daniels earned a 4.7 grade-point average and plans to major in accounting at S.C. State University.
Salutatorian: Rubi Santos earned a 3.9 grade-point average.
From the principal: "The Class of 2012 is a very special class, indeed. Throughout the year, they have shown perseverance, courage and (the) grit necessary to take on the unique challenges of the 21st century -- their century. This remarkable group of young adults has built relationships and bonds that will serve them well and will keep them grounded in the tempest that is adulthood.
