A Ridgeland woman told police she shot and killed a man she was living with after a dispute early Thursday, according to the Jasper County Sheriff's Department.
Melissa Davis, 48, shot Tyrone Hamilton, 48, three times, hitting him in the chest, abdomen and arm sometime before 1:30 a.m. at the home they shared on Three Mile Road in Ridgeland, Jasper County Sheriff Gregory Jenkins said.
Sometime after the shooting, Davis called family members.
He said Davis then called the Sheriff's Office and admitted to the shooting.
Deputies found Hamilton dead when they arrived at the home.
Davis was arrested later Thursday morning and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent incident, Jenkins said.
Officials at the Jasper County Detention Center could not be reached Thursday for information about whether Davis is being held in jail or if a bond hearing has been set.
