As most area high school football programs wrap up spring practice this week, many are hosting their annual spring scrimmages, most of which are open to the public.

Bluffton High School will hold its Black-Silver game at 6 tonight. There is no admission, but donations are welcome. The Bobcats are trying to raise money for more helmets and uniforms to accommodate an increase in players.

There will be season passes for sale, and for the first time, reserved stadium seating will be sold in advance. The Bobcats also will be selling 10 preferred tailgating spots.

"Things have been good," Bluffton athletics director Dave Adams said. "We're trying to make some upgrades and improvements. We spent $2,400 we raised last year to pay for our tunnel."

The Bluffton game will feature the first-team offense against the second-team defense, and then the first-team defense against the second-team offense. The teams will be split into black and silver squads.

Beaufort High School will host its Green and White Game at 5 p.m. Monday at Beaufort Middle School. The contest will be a controlled scrimmage, according to athletics director Jerry Linn.

Eagles fans who make a cash donation to the practice shoes/sock fund will receive a free seat cushion. The booster club will have $8 chicken dinners for sale and will be offering reserved seating at a discount.

Battery Creek High School will hold an informal scrimmage from 4-5:30 p.m. today at Dolphin Stadium.

Hardeeville High School will hold its spring event at 3:30 today. Coach Blake Raley said he will divide teams up as evenly as possible and go from there.

Hilton Head Island High School and Whale Branch will not be having spring games.

Area SCISAA schools -- Beaufort Academy, Hilton Head Christian Academy, Hilton Head Preparatoy School and Thomas Heyward Academy -- don't hold scrimmages because the league prohibits full contact during spring practice.
