After a more than two decade absence, the Windmill Harbour Boat Show returns this weekend.

The show brings together sail and motor boats from about 20 different dealers to the waters of the private residential community just off the bridges to Hilton Head Island.

The boat show was an annual tradition in the 1980s. But after what organizers think is close to a 22-year hiatus, it returns for its eighth year.

The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 19-20. Expect to see fishing boats, luxury yachts, sailboats, Chris Crafts and more. Vendors will line the marina with tents selling boating equipment.

Local artists will display marine-inspired pieces. The U.S. Coast Guard and Bluffton fire department will hold demonstrations of their equipment. Executive Chef Kevin Cavanaugh of the S.C. Yacht Club will prepare food for sampling. On Sunday, the Sun City Hilton Head model-sailboat club will host a regatta of model boats.

The idea for the return to the show came about as a way to not only bring together boat enthusiasts but to bring them specifically to Windmill Harbour and its 250-slip marina, said show director Muffy Schultze.

"Windmill Harbour is a very special place, and we want people to see it," she said.
