CLERMONT, Fla. -- The first one is out of the way for the University of South Carolina Beaufort softball team, which made quick work of No. 7 seed Northwood in an 8-0 win in five innings Friday at the Sun Conference tournament at National Training Center Softball Complex.

Freshman ace Kristy Cook threw a one-hitter, and the offense provided plenty of support, including home runs by Katie Rietkovich and Sam Boland, to help the No. 2 seed Sand Sharks advance in the winners' bracket.

Rietkovich opened the scoring with a three-run home run in the third inning, and Boland tacked on a solo shot in the fourth.

That was more than enough support for Cook (19-4), who struck out five and did not allow a hit until Jessica Blair's single in the fifth.

USCB finished off the victory early with four runs in the fifth, as Chelsey Blasingame drove in a run and Kalin Martin capped the scoring with a two-run single.

USCB (36-9) will face No. 3 seed SCAD Savannah at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The winner will advance to play No. 1 seed Webber International at 7 p.m. Saturday, while the loser will face No. 4 seed Warner at 4:30 p.m. The Sand Sharks won two of three against the Bees last weekend in Savannah.
